How to engage Caregivers in the play therapy process
Counselors and therapist working with children are often faced with many challenges including the following: how best to engage and facilitate growth for the child and how to keep caregivers consistent and committed. For clinicians working with children in the play therapy setting, we know where the bigger challenge lies. This presentation will highlight the importance of caregiver involvement throughout the therapeutic process and ways to increase parental motivation and involvement on behalf of the child..

1. Participants will gain insight into the influence and successful outcomes play therapy can have with caregiver participation.

2. Participants will learn to properly assess motivation of caregivers in order to create more realistic goals.

3. Participants will learn strategies to increase caregiver carryover of strategies learned within the child's home environment.
